Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu

FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

Kingsley Moghalu is the Founder and President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation, and the CEO of Sogato Strategies LLC, an emerging markets investment advisory and market intelligence firm. He is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Council on Emerging Markets Enterprises at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Massachusetts, where he previously taught full-time as Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy. He was the Oxford Martin Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford.

Dr. Moghalu served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, appointed by President Umaru Yar’Adua, from 2009 to 2014 and supervised the implementation of reforms that stabilized the banking sector of Africa’s largest economy in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis of 2008, as well as reforms that modernized the country’s payment systems, boosted financial inclusion from 33 million to 50 million Nigerians, and enabled the growth of the Fintech industry. He previously had a 17-year career in the United Nations System, with legal, political and external affairs assignments at duty stations in New York, Cambodia, Croatia, Tanzania/Rwanda, and Switzerland.

He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Master of Arts (M.A.) at The Fletcher School of Tufts University, and the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. Honors) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a UK Institute of Risk Management-certified risk professional, and received executive education at Harvard University, Wharton (University of Pennsylvania), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Institute, and the IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.  Dr. Moghalu is the author of four books including the critically acclaimed Emerging Africa: How the Global Economy’s Last Frontier Can Prosper and Matter (Penguin Books, 2014).

Kingsley Moghalu is a member of the Board of Directors of the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUN), and the Advisory Council of the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF). A philanthropist, he is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isaac Moghalu Foundation (IMoF).

 

Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu

Kingsley Moghalu is a global leader who has made significant contributions to the stability, wealth and progress of nations, societies and individuals across such domains as academia, economic policy, banking and finance, business, law, diplomacy, and philanthropy.

He was a Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University in Boston, USA, where he taught the course “Emerging Africa in the World Economy” in the Economics and International Business (EIB) Program. The Fletcher School, founded in 1933 as a collaboration between Tufts and Harvard Universities, is the oldest exclusively graduate school of international affairs in the United States.

Kingsley previously served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), appointed by President Umaru Yar’Adua and confirmed by the Senate, from 2009 to 2014. As Head of the Financial System Stability Directorate, he led the implementation of extensive reforms of Nigeria’s $200 billion banking system, the expansion of financial inclusion in Nigeria from 33% to 60%, and later in his tenure as Head of the Operations Directorate, payment system reforms that enabled Nigeria’s emergence as one of the world’s fastest growing markets for financial technology (FinTech). 

 

Damian Kalu Ude

RESEARCH FELLOW (Resident)

Damian Ude is an economist with a well-balanced portfolio of research, experience and knowledge in public sector economics. Prior to his appointment at IGET he was a Lecturer in Economics at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria., where he taught and supervised students in Research Methods, Advanced Macroeconomics, Advanced Microeconomics, Econometrics, and Energy Economics.

Damian has published in books and journals on such topics as the youth unemployment challenge and rural transformation in Africa, industrialization processes, knowledge economy and competitiveness, infrastructural development and value addition in agricultural output in Nigeria, energy storage and market implications for powering African countries, and small and medium enterprises.

He obtained Ph.D., M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and is a member of the United States Econometric Society, Nigerian Economic Society, Nigerian Association of Energy Economics, and the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Oluwatoyin Ajilore-Chukwuemeka

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Oluwatoyin works in the convergence of education and social entrepreneurship towards human capital development. Her expertise in education intersect research, policy and practice and grounds her work in philosophical and pragmatic education thought leadership. She was an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Ibadan and has facilitated professional development sessions for teachers and other high impact social entrepreneurial development programs in Nigeria, Liberia and Rwanda. She also contributes to policy appraisals that informs decision making for education administrators.She is the Founder of the Oak Nation Entrepreneurial (ONE) Foundation. The Foundation provides executive entrepreneurial education, mentoring linkages, funding linkages and other forms of resources to youth entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

 

Oluwatoyin holds two Master’s Degrees in Economic Geology and Mineral Exploration from the University of Ibadan and the Pan African University (funded by the African Union). She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology (First Class Honors) from the University of Ibadan. She is an alumnus of Lagos Business School, Tekedia Business Institute, University of Delaware and the University of Washington-FIUTS. She is currently a PhD researcher in STEM Education at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ebuka Onyekwelu

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Ebuka graduated with a second class upper division, from the University of Calabar in 2010. He also holds a master’s degree in Political Science, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Ebuka has served as a Technical Assistant on Legislative Matters in the Office of the Governor of Anambra State. Before then, he was the Special Adviser to a former Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly. He is also a columnist and blogger.

Ebuka is a good governance advocate, public speaker and an avid proponent of responsible citizenship as an enabler of good governance. He has wide range of published opinion, research and investigative articles numbering several hundreds. At various times, he has worked with NGOs, FBOs and CBOs, to deliver advocacy mandates of the organization.

Florence Young-Iseko

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Florence is an economist with over seven years of professional experience that intersects the public and private sectors. Her expertise cuts across implementation of strategic development programs, multi-donor development funds, stakeholder relationship management, inter-agency coordination and knowledge and familiarity in engagements with Governments and international partners. Florence has successfully managed high impact programs; facilitated PPP investments across key economic sectors such as transport, energy, agriculture. 

A graduate of International Business from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Massachusetts, Florence earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics (summa cum laude) from the American University of Nigeria. She is an alumnus of the China Europe International Business School, China; the International Business School of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and the American University, DC.

Maryanne Moghalu

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OPERATIONS

Responsible for the think tank’s logistical, administrative, human resource and financial operations, Maryanne began her career as a Banking Officer at Intercity Bank in Lagos, and was later Head of the Funds Transfers Unit at Commercial Trust Bank, Lagos. She later joined Mary Kay, Inc, headquartered in Addison, Texas as its Sales Director in Tanzania, and later served as the company’s Global Director in Geneva, Switzerland.

Maryanne is also the Executive Director of the Isaac Moghalu Foundation and a member of the board of directors of Sogato Strategies Ltd. Maryanne graduated with an LL.B. (Honours) degree in law from the University of Benin and the Barrister-at-Law (B.L) from the Nigerian Law School and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She also holds a Certificate in Non-profit Management from Duke University, USA

Chiemerie Ken-Ahukannah

EXECUTIVE OFFICER
(Finance and Administration)

Chiemerie has worked on public sector reform programs, advisory/evaluation and monitoring of public sector projects, political analysis, human resources advisory, and policy design.  In 2015, he received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Babcock University in Ilishan Remo, Ogun State. In addition, he is now enrolled in UNICAF’s online master’s degree program in oil and gas management. 

Chiemerie also holds professional certificates in digital marketing, leadership and team development, data analytics for business, and human resource management from the University of Colorado. Chiemerie is passionate about politics. He is also the creative director of Isaac Jones Wears, a local brand with a focus on luxury products, fashion, and design.
